Illinois Video Game Law Challenged

No surprsie- it hasn't taken long for Gov. Blagojevich's bill (to prohibit the sale and rental of violent and sexually explicit video games to minors) to be challenged by the Illinois Retail Merchants Association.

Great quote from Abby Ottenhoff, a spokeswoman for the governor, "And recent research shows that playing these video games frequently impacts kids' development and brain activity. If we know these games are damaging to children, we should treat them like we do alcohol, tobacco, pornography and other materials that are harmful to minors." (A Reefer Madness for video games should be in the making! )

Yes, I'm a librarian from Illinois. So far, we've been fortunate not to have any negative feedback about having game fests at our library, and we're certainly not the only 'game in town'-
